What photographs really are
"I don't have any photos of me from when I was a kid," said the old man fishing in the rock pool next to me. We both had our pants rolled up to the knees and were peering about for fish. "We didn't have any of those," he said, pointing to the bright orange point and shoot camera I had hanging from my arm. "I hate to think of all the things I've forgotten about because there's nothing to remind me of them."
The man wandered off with his grandchild, holding the chubby hand steady as they found a clear path through the seaweed.
I turned back to where my children were playing, and took another photograph. So they remember.

*Happy Sigh* He looks like he is really concentrating :) I love this Meaghan! x
As annoying as our kids think we are with our cameras, I know they will cherish all these images when they are too old to remember too.
Beautiful words Meaghan x
So, so true. And so, so important x
Well the trick is to remember to give them the photos. ;)
Nothing is a better reminder of a time and place than a photo. We are so lucky we get to capture so many of them.
your words are really beautiful Meaghan xx
So very true. Funny how stangers are placed right where we need them sometimes! Love the angle of this pic, it's really striking.
Such a emotive conversation to have with a stranger :) I love those moments - gives me chills.
People think I'm insane with just how many photos I take of my children, and that I make an effort to ensure I'm not always behind the camera but in front as well.
One day when I'm old, or if I'm gone, and the same for my kids, I want to be able to remember. It's very important to me to record moments - not posed photography all the time, those candid moments of living and breathing :)
This is a beautiful picture of your son!
Sad to say I have no photos of my childhood bar 1 baby photo, until I was pretty much a teenager. Love the perspective of this shot.
perfect x
