A kid and his shadow
Miles has a complete and unending bond with Murphy.
He cries for her in the night. He feeds her his honeyed toast crusts daily. He climbs into her kennel and hugs her with all the strength his arms can muster. He laughs when she barks at strangers walking past our gate. He whispers to her, and makes her nod to show her understanding.
He races her amoungst the waves.

I loved my cocker spaniel in a way I feel I will never love again (though maybe having children will change that). I agree that there is a childhood bond with animals that is so unique and special. It's so nice that you're able to witness it!
Those two are toooo cute! Miles is super special :)
